Welcome to the Business Education Department

Hi……………….a tidbit about myself

First I'd like to welcome you all.  My name is Brad Calkins.  I am a graduate of Idaho State University and the University of Idaho.  I am the father of a son, 24 (BYU grad and 5th Grade teacher) and three daughters ages: 19, 17 and 16.  And you ask me why I'm losing my hair?  As a student-athlete at Idaho State I participated on the football and baseball teams. I worked for  twenty years in the retail management field with Ernst Home Centers and as the Regional Manager of U-Haul Moving Center Inc. (Montana, Idaho & Washington) and served 2 years as Sports Director for the City of Caldwell from 2000-2003.  I began my teaching career at Vallivue High School in 2006 and also coached the JV Baseball team.  Although many years were spent outside the education field I have been very active and involved with youth in the community. I have  twenty years experience as a coach, official, club advisor, judge and consultant with the BPA and DECA organizations helping with state and regional competitions. Ultimately I came to the conclusion the education field is where I belonged, thus I'm here today!

My template or methodology is to instruct my classes in much the same manner as the expectations in the workplace.  Allowing the students to use their own creative skills, knowledge learned, troubleshoot and tackle problems offering guidance as needed.  This type of experience will help prepare the students for what will be expected of them in the workplace in the areas of: Responsibility, Respect, Accountability, Cooperation, Workmanship, Completion and Attention to Detail.  I am excited for the opportunity to teach/mentor your son/daughter this upcoming year.  If you have any  questions, ideas or a plan to help me better serve your student I will listen with open mind and ears.

…………Looking forward to a great year

Mr. C
