Grand Opening!
On Tuesday, November 1st, the new West Wing Library opened in the middle school serving students in the fifth and sixth grades.
The initial 737 books in the collection were tapped from the lower interest and expertise levels of the Panther Library, as well as from the upper interest and ability levels of the elementary library. We wish to thank Mrs. Leah Padilla for her generous work in making choices and transfers from her collection in the Maxine Johnson library.
The first boy and girl to check out a book did so at a special grand opening ceremony. Volunteer parent Mrs. Vicki Case checked out the books, using the software and computers set up by Mr. Bill Critchfield and his students, A to Z Tech.
Superintendent Mr. Jim Norton, middle school principal Mrs. Peg Sharkey, and secretary Mrs. Shari Doramus were also on hand to inaugurate the new library and to shake hands with the first student users.
Since then, the collection has continued to grow, and already almost every fifth- and sixth-grader has had an opportunity to check out books. They are also still allowed access to the larger Panther Library, which they use to great advantage. Our intermediate clientele are avid readers!
