Nurse Barroso LifeChanger of the Year Nominee

Parma School District #137 Educator Nominated for National LifeChanger of the Year Award

October 20, 2021 – Parma, ID – Maxine Johnson Elementary School nurse Lindsey Barroso has been nominated for the 2021-2022 national LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.

Barroso was nominated by her colleague, Shari Doramus, for leading the charge in the battle to fight COVID-19 in her school district and community.  As the district’s sole school nurse, she has spent tireless hours monitoring, contact tracing, and trying her best to make appropriate safety decisions in an ever-changing environment. This is all in addition to her day-to-day duties as a kind, compassionate school nurse.

Barroso not only cares for the students, but for the staff.  When she sets up vision, dental, and hearing screenings for students, she strives to include staff members who wish to participate, as well.  She sets up clinics on site for the staff, including flu and COVID vaccines, so everyone has the best chance to be protected with minimal loss of work time.

"When I think of Lindsey, I think of kindness, caring, compassion, nurturing, intelligence, humor, problem-solving, excellence, skill, grace, and above all, a desire to help others," said Doramus.  "She is a selfless leader with a heart of pure gold!  She has always been a LifeChanger in our district, but the last year more so than ever, and she does it all with a smile."
